Superb Original Pine & Sycamore Baker's Table with 6 Drawers
Ref: 4243
A terrific 7ft farmhouse table from the North East of England, in a very good state of preservation, pine with 3 wide drawers both sides, and a thick 2-plank sycamore top. Pale tight grained sycamore wood was often used for this sort of farmhouse table as the wood has natural antiseptic qualities and is hygienic. Another nice feature are a set of oak cups for the legs to stand in and this in it's day would have given the table a little extra height for food prepping. Victorian farmhouse tables with drawers are invariably too low for modern times (maybe people were smaller then?) but in this case the extra height of the table sat on it's cups is just right, giving 24" or 61cm knee clearance and yet not making the table too high (it stands at 30.5" so just about right again). It's rare to find a table that ticks so many boxes.
