Peasant Reverse Painting on Glass
Ref: 4433
A peasant made reverse painting on glass from Transylvania. These were a folk craft produced for the local population to decorate their otherwise drab country homes.
The colour sense of the Romanian peasantry is expressed here. They were basically copied from prints following the original design but departing quite boldly in spirit from the original.
Of note here are the back to front letters showing the reverse painting was a challenge.
The painting on glass is protected at the rear by old newspaper and it is in the original painted pine frame.
