Large Burr Folk Art Religious Shrine
Ref: 3780
Folk customs undoubtedly ascribed magical properties to burrs in trees and woodland magic of a quite surreal and spooky weird character is quite a theme in Central European folklore. This large burr or burl has been dug out and made into a shrine and painted with blue spangly paint and then mounted on a wooden base. Here we have put a small Spanish carving of saint inside it which is presumably the sort of icon/object it was made to enshrine.
