An atmospheric and very old religious icon with the powerful icon image of Christ as Pantocrater ruler of all things holding his hand in benediction and in possession of the book of the law. This piece is 18th century or earlier and is nicely worn and aged with marks to the front where candlelight has marked the surface, the back is black with patina, this piece must have been in a church setting for centuries and the suggestion is that it was a central focus of worship and pilgrimage. There are inscriptions to the reverse in Cyrillic which given time to translate would no doubt tell us more.
