Cezanne-esque vibes to this evocative oil on canvas depicting of a grove of ancient trees, in an exotic setting possibly the South of France, a late work by celebrated Modernist English painter, Maurice Codner, (1888-1958). Codner developed his painting skills alongside his friend, Sir Alfred Munnings, & rose to become a leading British portrait painter of the gentry, leading industry figures & royalty, his landscapes one could regard as ‘overlooked’ but like this one are of evident quality so very buyable. Signed and dated and in smart antique frame.
