'Seaside Village with Fishermen, Gulls & Rooftops' British Modernist School
Ref: 7175
The spirit of Christopher Wood evoked in this fresh and charming oil on board in original frame, signed and dated, 1968, it's a nice colour composition with sapphire blues, greys, red and white, two fishermen discourse on the wide path to the harbour, one with pipe and one with a bucket whose contents attract the attention of scavenging gulls, terracotta roofs of white-washed cottages occupy the mid-ground stacked in cubistic fashion, in the distance white-sailed cutters, probably working boats dredging for oysters, are jaunty on the waves in the bay beyond the breakwater. Originating from Falmouth or at least Cornwall.
