Primitive Boarded Mortar & Pestle with Shute
Ref: 3582
A large primitive construction mortar made in boarded style and of nicely bleached out scrubbed pine. Probably used for mashing maize. There is a shoot for the product, floor or mash to be collected. This could be used in a modern fashionable interior as a planter with sculptural ultra rustic affinities - a far cry from the peasant cottage in the high mountains from which it was originally sourced (see pic). Bear in mind most items like this are not good condition - and wormy - this one is near perfect. £290 and with antique mortar £350.
