Virgin and Child Reverse Painting on Glass
Ref: 4632
Fresh, joyful genuinely folk art from Eastern Europe, some streets in a village specialised in these reverse glass paintings copied from old German religious prints, the market was the peasantry themselves, they bought them to bring cheer and colour to their homes.
These come from the later period of production in the first half of the 20th century. They could not say mass produced but they were a cottage industry and in that sense comparable to Staffordshire pottery figures.
