Very Rare Hungarian Carved & Painted Mirror
Ref: 3640
One of the most distinctive but very rare forms of Hungarian folk art are the exquisite carved and painted mirrors made in the first half of the 19th century. This one is probably from Hodmezovasarhely in the Csongrad region and is similar to the one illustrated here and that one is in the collection of the Ethnographic Museum in Budapest and on permanent display. Other than in museums this is the only one of these mirrors that I have ever seen. It is very good condition pine and dated 1811 to back.
