A charming and naive religious painting, oil on canvas, of St Theresa, she was a popular saint amongst the folk, being ascetic, poor and humble, and a woman, she was a leading figure in the 1500s, in the Carmelite movement, often depicted in a moment of epiphany and with book and pen, she was the author of several important spiritual texts describing techniques of prayer & meditation, instruction books for aspirants wishing to ascend through, as she put it, the mansions of the soul in search of perfect peace, understanding and union with God.
