Ref: 5557
A notable find, a Spanish provincial school portrait of bewigged gentleman in high-status naval attire, making courtly gesture and with globe to the background, this is undoubtedly a previously unrecorded portrait composition of Antonio de Ulloa, a hero of the Spanish and European enlightenment, astronomer, naturalist, explorer, naval commander and colonial administrator, he travelled extensively in South America, he is the discoverer of platinum, gives his name to the Ulloa circles, an atmospheric apparition of orbs sometimes seen in mountains when sun shines through fog, he was at one time the first governor of Louisiana and became the High Commander of the Spanish navy.
