Small Carving of St Florian
Ref: 2106
This is a neat and small antique sculpture, a small pine carving of St Florian, a popular saint amongst the country folk and protector of households against fires. The simplified square of wood by his feet denotes a house, this is one of St Florian′s standard attributes as well as the bucket which here he has lost. But this does not especially deflect from the charm.
This is an old piece, the saint stands on a baroque style plinth so it may be 18th century or at the latest early 19th. It is nicely weathered. Subtle traces of grey paint remain.
Central Europe 18th cent.
