Shepherd's Staff or Cudgel with Carving
Ref: 2341
A fruitwood shepherd′s staff, tall and heavy enough to support the human frame or to cajole domesticated animals to their proper place but also to protect against attack from foes human and otherwise, for example, wolves, who still populate the forests of Romania. The head of the staff has old brass nails in it to add weight and it has a brass tip.
This is a solid and resonant object nicely polished to a warm glow by hands - the carving on it is also most interesting consisting of geometric designs in concentric circles and they seem altogether not just ancient but pre-historic like designs that have been found inscribed on objects dug up such as figurines, pottery or bones.
