Rustic Sculpture with Painted & Carved Birds
Ref: 7073
A charming table top folk sculpture made of tree branch painted black and with three carved and brightly painted birds. I’m guessing naive depictions of bee-eaters, a popular folk subject in Central & Eastern Europe, gregarious, often seen hunting in small groups and of course very colourful, these birds in folklore symbolised community, industry and joy. Peasants would make these to adorn nooks and crannies of their homes to bring luck.
