Ref: 4636
One more old painted mask from the Nepal/Central Himalayas region, these come from the Bon religion which is shamanistic and pre-Buddhist in origins though still perpetuated in the region today. Masks were used in ritual dances to connect to the spirit world and harness it’s energies, these masks are imaginative in terms of colour and expression and represent demons and spirits whose purpose is to protect the house and ward off evil influence.
