Remarkable Painted Bridal Box with Decorative Metalwork
Ref: 6544
A great example of Turkoman bridal box from Anatolia, the metalwork to the front is of the highest quality and very well preserved, the front is painted with representations of opposed cypress trees and birds, which is traditional Turkic pre-Islamic imagery. The interior is also painted with symbolic representations of trees which could easily have come from the imagination of a Matisse or some other modern abstract artist inspired by colour and aesthetic of the Orient. Made of mountain cedar pine and very good condition.
