Rare Small Shepherd’s Coffer
Ref: 5067
A rare small shepherd’s coffer, probably a marriage box, made for keepsakes, the carved compass circles and ‘witches marks’ are traditional & intended to protect the contents of the box from being used in witchcraft and spells. The wear on this piece shows it’s age, boxes like this have been made for centuries and in the same way, but probably 18th century.
