Naive Boat Painting from Bridal Box
Ref: 6028
The spirit of Alfred Wallis lives on in this folk painting applied to the interior of a bridal box, having said that, this painting almost certainly pre-dates the primitive ship paintings of the Cornish fisherman, it’s another example of cross over from traditional folk art to modern art - in Anatolia just as in Britain there was a traditional of painting images of ships and boats on bridal boxes, they symbolised adventure, freedom, the new life of the bride.
