Joyful Folk Painted Bridal Chest
Ref: 6429
A superb example of marriage chest from the Hungarian tribes of the Kalota, the folk painting is traditional with ‘cosmic’ imagery of flowers and tulips, it’s uncommon to find a piece with this splendid yellow ground & powder blue detailing. These boxes would have formed part of a dowry suite of furniture and would reside in the clean room of the house with the dowry textiles hence the very good condition.
