Iron-Bound Bridal Box with Folk Painting
Ref: 6304
A good early look to this iron-bound bridal box made of heavy and fragrant cedar wood, the metal binding is decorative with small mirrors and mihrab forms, it’s all very traditional and intended to ensure a prosperous future for the bride and to deter malign influence, the wandering spirits of the earth that can bring ill fortune. The remains of the folk painted interior are typically colourful, with floral motifs, and done in vegetable and mineral paint. Gallery condition.
