Giant Primitive Mortar & Pestle
Ref: 4878
One of the really primitive pieces you sometimes find in the alpine and remote parts of Eastern Europe are these giant or over-sized mortars, they are really sculptural objects and reminiscent of modern sculpture (Constantin Brancusi of course, who would have seen such things in this youth growing up in Transylvania). This one is good condition, the height given is with the mortar inside. Otherwise the height is 78cm. The piece is made of birchwood which can be very pale when stripped of bark. The mortar is ash and nicely polished with age.
