A neat slightly smaller painted pine blanket box or chest painted in the traditional folk style of the Kaloteszeg in Central Transylvania.
Nice and clean outside and in. Dated to front ‘1976’. This is the date of the painting - the box itself probably 1930s These pieces were often re-painted when they were passed down to the next generation to serve again as a dowry box.
