Folk Art Faience Dish with Bird

A folk art hand painted tin-glaze or faience earthenware dish. Faience so-called as in the Renaissance finer country wares were made in Faenza, Italy, a type of ceramic in which a pale creamy ground glaze is applied onto red earthenware and then hand painted .
This type of pottery continued in Eastern Europe especially in Transylvania, but as a folk art industry, and was sold to the peasants who had an innate love of this colourful Eastern originating decorative art form.
