Ref: 5554
A museum quality example of a Transylvanian shepherd’s marriage chest, bought recently from a private collection, these are very traditional pieces and styled after ancient sarcophagus tombs, this one is especially richly carved with archaic magic and symbolic devices, pin-wheels or rosettes, and multiple semi-circular devices, and strikingly here five anthropomorphic abstract sentinel figures. Also unusual is the painting, these are often just wood, or decorated in simple black mineral colours.
