Europe » Large Antique Plate with Old Repairs
Ref: 4839
Before china, metals, & eventually plastic, were readily available everybody one imagines used wooden plates, & so their appearance one associates with medieval & earlier times, but in the remote areas and highlands, far from towns, markets & hardwear stores, their use persisted into later centuries. This one is a great piece, over-sized, a platter, more than plate, with nice wear, old metal repairs, a generous turned base to sit on, coming from the shepherds’ dairy in the mountains it could have been used for cheese-making.
