Ref: 4269
A chip carved hooved peg rack, signed and dated in pen to the reverse, either home-made or who knows done by a master craftsman.
It would have been used to hang a cap, the hunting pouch and belt. Note the fine chip carving, this is typical of Hutsul work. By the 1920s the wood carving of the mountain dwelling Hutsul had been discovered by arts and crafts and folk art enthusiasts and everyday items continued to be made using the traditional designs but with a new self-consciousness towards the craft skill being employed.
