Europe » Early Style Rustic Pine and Oak Box
Ref: 6213
A wonderfully ancient looking box, testimony to the persistence of old forms of making in isolated parts of Europe, was essentially a storage box for maize or dry goods, it looks medieval but probably 19th cent., now with nice patina, uprights are hardwood and slatted boards pine. I have seen these in folk museums or ‘skansens' in Northern Hungary and in Romania and similar boxes are found in Eastern Afghanistan & India forming a connection to the East that goes back to ancient times. Could make a useful and characterful log bin.
Northern Hungary/ Transylvania 19th cent.
