Europe » Antique Creamer in Sycamore
Ref: 3695
There is sensuality to the smoothed surface of this piece and a warm glow to the colour - before the Victorians developed machines to make the task easier country people used wooden bowls or creamers like this to separate the curd and the whey. Typically these were made of sycamore which is a tight grained wood and non-porous and which also has antiseptic properties. This is relatively small one - with signs of use and an old metal repair. It can hang or be a table or sideboard ornament.
