Eastern Folk Art Painting with Imperial Eagle

A decorative folk painting from the inside lid of an Ottoman bridal chest, it is an image of splendour, flanked by dramatic zig-zags and vertical lines then encased in a medallion form is an abstracted form of the Imperial double-headed eagle, such as one might find on a holy relic or item of jewellery, it is all in a simple but striking colour scheme, Islamic law forbidding representatin, the Eastern artist learned to use the language of abstraction and pictorial means to convey their meaning. Hangs on wall.
