Early Pine Marriage Box with Folk Designs

A pine dowry or marriage chest of typical larger 18th century scale with panelled top and heavy handles to sides, the charcoal black almost inked heraldic designs on wood-stained background which are on both top and sides are typical of the subdued decoration of painted pine furniture in the 17th and early 18th century before the colourful Rococo style became popular.
