“Death of Buddha” Grey Schist Relief

A nicely detailed and good subject matter grey schist carved fragment probably from a narrative cycle of the life of Buddha from a shrine or stupa - could be phase II Ghandaran work so 2nd-3rd century - these works are amongst the most celebrated of India’s rich sculptural tradition, and show the influence of Roman/Greek sculpture on Indian folk art of the time.
