Carved and Painted 6-Winged Seraphim

A double-sided carving of a seraphim (angel) from the Orthodox Church - it is made of pale hardwood and retains its original green and gold paint. This piece has a metal ring to the top and may have hung and been lit - sconces for candles may have sat on the tips of the two upturned wings. The central empty discs would have held icons of angels faces probably reverse painted on glass or if not then on thin wooden panels or paper prints...
