Antique Wooden Salting Dish in Figured Ash
Ref: 3758
The strong swirling grain character to the ash wood on this shallow antique salting dish or trug is not quite burr wood but referred to as figured ash or Hungarian ash. It used to be imported to the West from countries like Hungary (and elsewhere) for use in manufacturing special items of furniture or object d'artobjects. Here the country craftsman is lucky enough to have this special wood to hand, the tighter grained wood suits the purpose of the piece. It is all hand carved with an adze from the solid and has charming old repairs.
