An over-sized antique mortar carved from one large root or burr of hardwood, nicely worn and smoothed by time, a piece like this from the shepherd tribes in the High Carpathians was used for grinding herbs and grains and may have been in the possession of a “molnar” or healer, sometimes known as medicine or magic men.
