Antique Pine Folk Art Village Bridal Chest
Ref: 7107
A colourful and neatly sized pine village bridal chest from Anatolia (modern day Turkey) - the front is decorated nicely with images of a ewer - in Islam this is traditionally an 'apotropaic' symbol in other words it gave protection against the evil eye - this is typical of bridal chest decoration throughout Europe. The chest is also decorated to the sides with the symbol of star and crescent moon - although nowadays associated with Islam this image too has more ancient roots and is associated with divine love and fertility. This piece would be neat as coffee table, end of bed, general storage or a folk art collector piece.
