Antique Pine Bridal Box with Ewer & Tree of Life

A cute size cedar pine peasant bridal chest or box very clean throughout and a good size for coffee table or everyday storage or tv plinth. It has painted front depicting a traditional design that depicts an eastern ewer of elegant form and sprawling foliage (tree of life), purity and fertility are symbolised and relate to concepts within the marriage folk customs. Ewer were essentially water kettles and sometimes held holy water - ornate and special examples held water collected from the miraculous spring of Hajar and Ismael at Mecca. Origin: Anatolia/modern day Turkey.
