Antique Green Stove Tile with Newly Weds
Ref: 4287
A highly collectable Hungarian stove tile from Old Transylvania, delicious thick green glaze testimony to the ancient technology used in these remote regions. Many of these stove tiles have floral designs, rarely they feature human figures like this one, and these are prized amongst collectors of Hungarian folk art. You can see this is a Hungarian piece as the noble couple depicted are holding the coat of arms of Hungary between them. This piece would probably have been made for the house of a newly wedded couple in a Hungarian settlement in Central Transylvania, in the Kaloteszeg.
