A smaller sized pine bow-top trunk or chest probably a marriage piece and decorated in traditional folk art style with abstract designs on a predominantly ochre ground colour. The style is not dissimilar to patterning and colour found on kilims and carpets and a reminder of the Eastern nature of Russia folk art. This piece came out of Russia over 20 years ago, before the domestic market for such pieces exploded and before the war with Ukraine, we’d have to class it as a rare piece therefore.
