Anitque Hemp Cutter with Painted Inscription

A utilitarean wooden cutting tool used for the mashing hemp fibres in the process of producing cloth in the village but this one a special piece, nicely made like an item of furniture, and painted and inscribed to Elizabeth Reis in 1893 probably a wedding gift and would have lived with the dowry in the clean room of a newly wed house. One for the textile museum or collector.
