2 x Sculptural Old Flax Combs
Ref: 3107
These are flax combs presumably...used for teasing out the tangles in the wool prior to spinning - it's far more practical to use a metal toothed device and these one sees, the wooden ones are rarer and must one presumes come from remote villages far up tracks in the mountains where the peasants had no easy access to metal materials.
Pieces like this are therefore rare but even more so when you find them with no broken teeth. Handle carefully and display out of reach as potent historic & sculptural objects.
Eastern Europe 19th/early 20th cent.
