Rare Antique Dentist Trade Sign on Hook & Chain
Ref: 6254
A fantastically quirky not to say gruesome wooden painted tooth with roots, blood and all, suspended from a chain & hook, it’s a trade sign for a dentist, the clue here to the age and provenance is that it wasn’t designed to hang from a wall bracket, in the days before urban growth and industrialisation dentists were mostly itinerant professionals, offering their services at large fairs, the best were experts in their art and sufferers would wait weeks & months for the dentist to arrive in town to have a troublesome tooth extracted, a sign like this would hang at his booth.
