Primitive Portrait with Sampler
Ref: 4363
A primitive portrait of a young girl, oil on canvas, original condition and in pine frame. A fresh and appealing image, typical of this type of journeyman art, the rather stiff primitive body, the more considered treatment of the face, the lively brushwork and strong colour. Typical English Regency but old labels to reverse also suggest American. A very unusual feature is the actual collaged inclusion of a sampler of the sitter’s handiwork into the painting making this possibly unique and more collectable. From private collection.
