Pair of Naive School Landscape in Oak Frames
Ref: 5485
Not one but two paintings here, almost like illustrations, in oils on boards, and in oak frames, executed with brushwork and sponging, in fresh and untrained child-like manner, combining a real sense of the drama, detail and spaciousness of an English landscape even to the point of the optical true blue hills in the distance and then co-mingled with fantasy elements, a fairy tale castle, a white steed, children playing, and fisherman, a dramatic waterfall & sleepy cottage, these seem to say much about the Victorian childhood lived in the countryside, in spirit they remind me of the Bronte children inventing worlds, combining the everyday real with the imaginary.
