Ref: 4402
A charming English Primitive or Naive School oil on card in original gold painted pine frame. There was a certain school of folk painting prior to the popularisation of photography which could be called house portraits. Some jobbing artisans made this a speciality. A pencil inscription on the reverse tells us that this is a particular house that is or was on the corner of Breck Road and Oakfield Road in Anfield, home of a Mr Thomas Lee, who is pictured seated by the window on the right hand side as we look. The location is just along the road from the present day Liverpool football stadium which even in it’s original version may well not have been there at all when this was painted.
