Exceptionally rare pub sign painted on linen. Found in carefully constructed hanging frame with early 20th c. pub sign on one side and old linen painting encased behind glass on the other side and vented. Inscription re-painted several times reads "The Original Fox Sign Circa 1820". From Guildford, Surrey. Quintessential vernacular image of the crafty fox jumping over a wall. Found in parlous condition with paint loss immanent, taken on and saved by the generous efforts of one of the country′s leading old painting restorers in an effort to save for posterity an exceptional example of English folk heritage.
