Early Celtic Stone Carved Head
Ref: 5499
Coming recently from a private collection & reputedly Romano-British, found in Northern England, it's a plausible attribution, the flattened face, ring ears & highly simplified features give it a distinctly Celtic look, while the overall form & hair are borrowed from a 'Roman' high status decorative bust, suggesting therefore an indigenous artist's votive figure channelling the power of colonialist imagery.
