Antique Country Armchair in Vibrant Original Red Paint
Ref: 4776
A pine and hardwood country made arm-chair in a an arts and craft style, in form resembling the reclining armchairs of Stickley. What’s different and makes it quintessentially country Irish is the deep red paint.
You can imagine in this instance a country joiner saw a modern chair in the window of a shop in town, and was pleasantly surprised, he felt an affinity, it was his sort of thing, simple honest open construction & comfortable looking, he decided to make one for himself, in his workshop with his humble tools. The irony which probably passed him by was that he was translating to source, the very design & manufacture of the chair he was copying was itself originally inspired by the craftsmanship of his forbears or at least the idea of that in the minds of the urban educated fin-de-siecle arts and crafts theorists like Morris, Stickley, Lloyd Wright, etc.
