'The Golden Eagle' Vintage Hand Painted Pub Sign
Ref: 5968
Pub signs are a traditional form of British folk art going back a centuries, practicality demanded that a ‘good’ pub sign be simple in design and bold in colour as it was intended to catch the attention from a distance, both are merits that we have come to admire in art in general in the Modern period. Sadly the art is dying out in an age of sat navs and printed and mechanically produced pub signs that often give no more than the name of the pub.
This is an especially colourful sign hand painted on board on both sides and nicely weathered. Metal framed. It was for Gales Brewery.
