Tall Glazed Pine Dresser in Black & Blue
Ref: 6856
A splendid and stately Irish dresser with drawers, two doors (shelf within), a scrubbed pine counter top and glazed cupboard above. There are unusually four window panels, with ‘faux’ sashes or drapery in wood above. The exterior is black, and the interior in decorative blue. The panelling of the lower section is typically in the Georgian style, as the 19th century progressed the Irish carpenters continued to favour the Georgian style as seen in the architecture of the colonial Palladian mansions and country houses of their lands, so they made their dressers tall, narrow, neo-classical rather than adopting the more florid dumpier Victorian style better suited to the smaller homes of the newly industrialised English and this suits our taste now. This piece would have been a one-off made with pride by a local joiner and team and with individual decorative characteristics. To get this made now three times the price but why not have an original piece?
