Superb Georgian Irish Pine Dresser
Ref: 4831
You seldom find a very good Irish dresser nowadays but this is one, a fair and noble example, it could be from Co. Galway, where the makers were famous and showed great wit by incorporating Celtic decorative motifs into the imported language of Georgian neo-classicism. This one seems to have it all, it is a “fiddle front” with pot-board floor, this is the vernacular name for the classical vase silhouette shape to the lower section. Upstairs framing the shelves theatrically is a fine bold top moulding with classical reeding to the sides and fans, but combined with a finely carved rope-twist and “spinning wheels” both traditional Irish decorative symbolism. So it’s a work of folk art but also a fine centre piece in any country cottage or townhouse and at a most reasonable price. Comes in two pieces so easy to site.
